Colloque international

Venise, 22-25 septembre 2005

Ce colloque célèbre le cinquantenaire de l’AILC/ICLA (Association Internationale de Littérature Comparée/ International Comparative Literature Association) et en particulier le jubilée de son premier congrès qui s’est tenu à Venise en septembre 1955 sur le thème « Venise dans les littératures modernes ».

Le colloque se veut :

  1. Un moment de réflexion sur le développement d’une association qui, née comme un cercle restreint de chercheurs européens et nord-américains, est devenue dans les dernières décennies une organisation mondiale avec des milliers d’adhérents appartenant aux cinq continents.
  2. Un débat théorique sur l’état d’une discipline fondamentale pour la compréhension des littératures et des cultures dans une perspective interdisciplinaire, et sur le projet scientifique et didactique qui la soutient dans cette phase.
  3. Une réflexion et une discussion sur le rôle que Venise a tenu et qu’elle aura encore à tenir dans ce projet.

Si, de fait, il y a cinquante ans, Venise a été choisie, conformément aux perspectives des études de ces années, comme thème littéraire, aujourd’hui, la ville et sa région se présentent, par son passé et son futur, comme un carrefour des héritages et des perspectives qui permettent d’exemplifier leur rôle constant dans les processus interculturels entre Nord et Sud, entre Orient et Occident, entre Europe et Asie, Afrique, Amérique.

This conference celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of the AILC/ICLA and, in particular, the jubilee of its first congress held in Venice in September 1955 on the theme ”Venice in Modern Literature.”

The conference will consider:

  1. the development of the association that was founded by a small group of European and North-American scholars and has become a world organization with thousands of members from the five continents
  2. theoretical debates on the state of this fundamental discipline for the comprehension of literatures and cultures from an interdisciplinary perspective and on the scientific and didactic project that informs this phase of its development
  3. the role that Venice has assumed and might still play in this project.

50 years ago, Venice was chosen as a literary theme, in conformity with the perspectives of scholarship at that time. Today, the city and the Veneto Region are still at the heart of the intercultural exchanges and processes between North and South, East and West, Europe and Asia, Africa and America.
